How to read sizes and symbols witten on the tire?

1. Width   195 indicates the section width of a tire in millimeters.  2. Aspect ratio or profile  55 is the aspect ratio or tire profile.  3. Tire construction  R means that the tire has radial ply construction,  4. Rim  16- Indicates the diameter of the wheel rim in inches.   5. Load index  87 -indicating the maximum load capacity  6. Speed symbol  H -Speed Rating. Indicates the maximum speed for the tire when at full load.

How to read tire date of production (DOT) of a tire?

On the sidewall you will find a tire’s ‘DOT code’. One of the key pieces of information that can be gained from this is the date the tire was manufactured.  Since the year 2000, the date section of the code - the last digits - has been made up of 4 numbers.  The first two digits tell you the week number and the last two indicate the year the tire was manufactured. In the example below the age, code is '3909'. This means the tire was made in the 39th week of the year 2009.

What is the proper air pressure for my tires?

Recommended pressure is usually between 30 and 35 PSI but the Proper tire air pressure is determined by the vehicle manufacturers and is set to best fine-tune a tire's capabilities to their specific vehicle make and model. What is the load index – speed index on the tires?

Ø Load index  Tire load index tells you how much weight your car can safely carry based on the correct tire size and pressure. It was calculated by the people who built your vehicle, and they know what they’re talking about! You can check your owner’s manual to figure out the recommended tire size and load rating, or you can check out the tires that came on your car when you got it. You will need to stick to that number (or higher) when it is time to buy new tires for your ride.  Ø Speed Rating  The speed rating tells you the speed the tire can safely maintain over time. A higher speed rating usually means you will have better control and handling at higher speeds — and that the tire can take the extra heat. As a general rule, tires with higher speed ratings also handle better at slower speeds.  The main things to know:  Generally, the higher in the alphabet a tire is rated, the better it will manage heat and faster speeds. There is an exception for the H rating; read on for why.  Your actual speed capacity may be less than a tire’s rating. The rating indicates a new tire’s performance in tightly controlled lab settings, not the open road. Tire condition, inflation level, extra cargo, road surfaces and weather are everyday limits that play into a tire’s maximum safe speed.  If you have tires with different speed ratings, the limit of the lowest rated tire is the fastest you can drive and stay within your tires’ capability.  The most common ratings are S and T (sedans, minivans, light trucks); H (some passenger cars, sports cars, coupes, some light trucks); N, P, Q and R (light trucks); and V, W and Y (high-performance cars). Most winter tires have Q, S or T speed ratings.
